Volkswagen Phaeton
Last week saw me on my merry travels once more this year down to Maidstone Kent for a 2 day new car detail on this luxury Volkswagen Pheaton.
The new owner having a bad experience with new car prep in the past was referred to me by a previous client I took care of last year after a lengthy conversation we decided on a 2 day approach for the vehicle, he had specked the car very high custom piano black inserts all round the interior including hanging on handles ( the ones in the roof ) separate climate for the rear people etc. The engineering on these cars is amazing intelligent heated seats that heat cool or hot depending on the exterior temp’ auto electric head rests in the rear that come up when you sit in the seat & retract when you get out, clever foot heating for the rear passenger that is separate from the drivers control etc, double glazing etc it just goes on, an amazing car
Ok onto the detail I was put up by the local Skoda dealership in their car storage unit for my 2 day stay they were brilliant showing a genuine interest in the process & intrigued by what I did extra that their valeters didn’t & of course the wax price tags came into play talking about Divine & all the other waxes from around the world I carry in my Swissvax cooler bag
Outside in the morning sun the car was carrying some storage grime but nothing too serious
Selection of prior shots, the dealer was under strict orders not to touch the car
Firstly under the lovely Monday morning sun I gave the alloys & wheel arches a good pressure wash
Wheel arches were cleaned with G101 4:1 vikan brush
Tyres also cleaned
Alloys treated to a weak acid free wheel cleaning mixture & a selection of brushes
All thoroughly jet washed out, onto foaming of paintwork I took this time to clean seals, bumper grills etc with a small detail brush
Washed 2 bucket with Swissvax Car Bath
Clay stage was Autosmart grey
Most of the car was free of contamination
The drivers door was the worst
Last rinse with the pressure washer before pure filtered water rinse & dried with super plush microfiber drying towles
With all areas dry the car was taken inside for the next stage,
paint inspection, paint depth readings, masking tape to sensitive areas & machine polishing
Defects present in the paint under various lighting
I took this out of focus as it was easier to show the hologram in the paintwork
The scratches were taken out with 3.02ip & refined with Meg’s 205, the rest of the minor marks were treated to 205 too via the makita rotary, black piano out sections were also treated to 205 on 3M 3” pad via the rotary
Finished shot before waxing under the 3m Sungun
A thorough ipa wipe down & further inspection with the sungun prior to Swissvax cleaner fluid applied by hand & buffed off
Wax of choice by the owner was Swissvax Divine
While this cured I took to the alloys cleaner fluid followed by Autobahn by hand
Buffed off after 15 minutes
As time was an issue with this detail ( yes 2 days & I was fast running out of time ! )
This was the last process shot I took until the finished article, in brief the other details attended to were:
· door shuts waxed with Divine
· tyres dressed & plastic arch liners
· glass cleaned
· interior piano black inserts cleaned with QD
· piano black inserts treated to swissvax wood polish by hand
· leather cleaned & conditioned with swissvax leather cleaner & leather milk
· hard surfaces where applicable cleaned with mid apc
Divine buffed off & paintwork checked over the light source finally
As I put my cloth down the owner was escorted over to me 5 minutes after I had finished at 3.30pm on day 2 (Tuesday)now that is timing !
I showed him round the car explained in detail what I had done we chatted about the car & its gadgets. As he is a keen photographer we proceeded to take some shots together which was very kind of him
